Just needed to "blog" about a book/movie I have been into lately. Its called "Christy" by Catherine Marshal. They played the movies on TV, it was made into a miniseries back in the mid 90's, and was recently re-aired on tv. I was so hooked to it, DVR'ed it and keep watching it. I am just taken w/ all the characters. I feel like I have a lot in common w/ her, with her mission and being a teacher I guess. I was so upset w/ how the last episode left you completely dangling! I thought there was more to the series, but found out it did, in fact end with the 19th episode. I couldn't believe it! She is torn btw. two loves, Preacher/ Doctor. I personally liked the dr. best. I checked it out and quickly flipped to the last page, apparently it doesn't really tell you about her future and how it all pans out. I was even more intrigued when I found that the book is based on the author's mother's mission to the Great Smokies of Tennessee. I read more about the real 'Christy', and how she went back to TN after 40 years and how things had changed. Has anyone read/ or seen the movies? What did you think??

How Time Flies . . . .

My how time does certainly fly. Here is Miss Bella on her first birthday (which was Nov. 8). I know, I know, its MARCH now. And I have plenty of other pics to post but its getting closer to my bedtime, so I will do this quickly. We had a wonderful holiday, which we were blessed to spend with family. We are healthy and happy. Chris switched jobs, and is now working for The Local Book. We are still living in Greenville and love our friends here. Bella is now sleeping through the night, which I am so very very thankful for. She is also cutting molars hmmmm, has had several cysts in her mouth during this process, teething has not been so good for her. But she is running around and saying new words and babbling. She says 'mama' dada' 'grape' 'bye bye' 'star' that's all I can think of for now. She loves mama to read to her, and she loves to go to the park. Finally, a little warmer weather for more frequent visits to the park. Well, I'll post more later.

Pumpkin Patch!

Well, today we finally went to the pumpkin patch! We also enjoyed all the animals, including ponies, sheep, chickens, llamas, pigs, donkeys, peacocks, rabbits, ducks, cows and a little goat we rescued. His head was stuck in the fence, and with some gently maneuvering, we were able to set him free :) Our dear friends Eileen and Olivia accompanied us. They also had a kiddie corn maze which was fun. There were hayrides, but those are only reserved for school groups on weekdays. I think Bella enjoyed eating the dirt and hay mostly. Funny girl.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This little girl is ready! We tried to decorate our tiny "yard" as best we could. I then tried to get Bella to sit nicely and pose for the camera, but it wasn't happening. These are the best shots I could get. Hopefully soon we will be visiting the local pumpkin patch. I think Bells is ready! She has several cute Halloween outfits.

Fall Things

As I have mentioned before, I love the Fall. Even though the weather hasn't felt much like Fall, I am exited for a change in seasons. I love the colors of fall, and the holidays, esp. Thanksgiving. So, here is Bella in her Fall "attire" I love the smocked pumpkins and flowers! And, thanks to my "martha stewart" mother, look at my beautiful wreath! We got it at Target, and it just had these orange beads, and Mama whipped up something much more enticing complete with bow!! We got the little pumpkins and gourds from Michaels! I absolutely love it!!! Thanks Mama!

I know I know I know! Its September, and my last post was in March! I don't really know why I have been so slack, except for the fact that every time I sit down at the computer miss Bella wants to climb up here with Mama and bang on the computer keys, which makes it hard to blog. Anyhow, lots going on here. Had a hot, busy summer. We got to swim and sun at Gammy and Pa Paw's, and take a trip to the Outer Banks, in which Missy was kind enough to let us stay at their house for a week! We had a lot of fun climbing lighthouses and visitng the Elizabethan Gardens and eating out! Kill Devil Grill is some of the best food I have had in a long time by the way if you find yourself near Kill Devil Hills sometime. Well, summer has past, and Autumn is coming up quick, even though it doesn't feel much like Autumn. We made pumpkin cookies, which Bella loves and she wore her glow in the dark jack-o-lantern pajamas last night to bed. Bella is getting so big eating many different finger foods, and she is walking around furniture and took her first steps just the other day! Its so exciting (and sad) to see her grow so quickly. We love our little princess!

Happy Easter !
Well, Easter is coming up. We went to some daffodil fields to take pictures of Bella, we rented a live bunny rabbit for $1, and Gammy got her a beautiful dress with ballet slippers ;) It was a lot of fun. Bella was completely oblivious that there was a real rabbit sitting on her lap. She was more enthralled with the cars wizzing past. Having a child has helped me to understand the Atonement better. The incredible love and time you spend with your child has helped me to understand a little bit how the Savior's love for us is, and helps me to ponder on His great sacrifice for us. It is only through Him that we can enjoy the blessings of the Temple. I am so grateful that we can repent and come clean through Him. What a wonderful season. We love you all!!

Pictures! Well, here they are! I finally got the disk thingy to work so I uploaded pics from the camera. Here she is miss Bella, she loves to "fly" with daddy, and she loves story time! while I read the whole book she listens eagerly and likes to read it herself, she goes on blabbing and she has a new thing where she makes a spitting noise? did daddy teacher her that? She loves to roll around on her jungle gym on the floor, lately she has been taking lots of cat naps, hope this is not a permanent thing, makes for a long sometimes frustrating day . . . . . but we have lots of fun in the meantime :)

Bella Update:
Bella is 9 lbs 11 1/2 ounces! Is is doing beautifully, we have to put rice cereal in her bottle to help her gain, but she is still nursing too. She is very happy, now to get her to sleep in her crib! Any advice?

BREASTFEEDING 101
Well, if this had been a class in college, I would have taken it! I always thought it would come natural, as would infant care. (Okay stop laughing all you veteran moms) There are things that happen that you just aren't prepared for! Bella has had a lot of trouble putting on weight, she would spit up so much, breastmilk, formula, you name it, she just couldn't keep it down. But we have found Enfamil AR, which she keeps down much better and is finally gaining some weight, it has been a roller coaster! I have had to cut back on nursing her which is very disappointing, but I am convinced I shouldn't stop completely. I was so looking forward to nursing, and now that she got it down pat, we have to supplement. At least the doctors found out there is nothing metabolically wrong, so we are thinking she has acid reflux or a floppy sphincter muscle or something I don't know if she'll grow out of it, i hope so! Motherhood is full of joys and challenges! Any advice I would love to hear.

Well, the day after posting the last post, would you believe my water broke at 7:45 am Sunday morning, Nov. 8. Things didn't quite go as planned, bore 12 hours of labor, begged for an epidural at 9 cm. and 4 hours later still had not dilated to 10 cm, and had a C-section. But, it didn't matter, when I heard my Isabella Claire cry for the first time! (Bella). She is so sweet and beautiful and wonderful! (Just wish she'd sleep more at night ;) She was born at 10:58 pm weighing in at 8 lb. 12 1/2 oz.! 20 inches long! No wonder I couldn't push her out . . . .

So baby Bella was due on Sunday, Nov.1, but she is quite comfortable in there and doesn't want to come out. I have tried lots of things, walking, aerobics, cinnamon oil baths, primrose oil, walking up and down stairs, breast pump. Last night I was having mild contractions about every 40 minutes through the night, I even got in the shower thinking I better "get ready" to go to the hospital, then all the sudden around 5:30 am I laid back down, and then next thing I know, I wake up and its 12:00!! What happened to the contractions???? They stopped! Why is this so hard??? I just thought bam, my water would break and my body would know what to do!! ?? I didn't think I'd have to coax it into labor. What the heck? Well, if I don't have this baby this weekend they are going to induce on Monday - yikes yikes yikes, I do not want to be induced, scary!!!!

"Summer Happenings"

Well, so far this summer we've been traveling a lot! 1 First we went to the Outer Banks, all the sunning and swimming was fun, but apparently we forgot to reapply the sunscreen! Oops! Sunburn is so miserable! But it was really nice at the beach, not too hot, and a nice breeze blowing, but only Chris and Kristine could brave the ice chilling water.

2 Next, we went up to Washington D.C. for Chris's sister's wedding. It was really beautiful, and I will post pictures of this when I get them. While up in D.C. Chris and I took a night to ourselves, hopped on the metro (the Red Line, which I might add crashed two days before - I figured if we were on it togeher at least we'd die together). But we didn't die, instead we had a blast at the Red Sox vs. Washington Nationals baseball game! We were fortunate to get some tickets someone was selling right outside the stadium they were a great price on the first level behind first base line. David Ortiz hit a homerun! Youkalis really DOES have the weirdest batting stance, and Pedroia really IS a midget but he is still Chris's favorite player! It was really cool! Again, I will post a picture of that game when I can find the attachment to our camera.

3 Last, we headed up to Williamsburg with the Aycocks for a Busch Gardens trip! I actually have pictures of thisb/c I stole them off of missy's facebook page, yay! I was hoping I would be allowed to ride the Roman Rapids or something, but to my dismay expectant mothers are not allowed on anything. But, fortunately Busch Gardens has some neat wildlife including eagles, clydesdale horses, and wild wolves to go and see, and I think we saw 3 or 4 variety shows. And there was Katie (3) and Fischer(2) to tow around with us (Mama and Jenny are not fond of rides).

So Friday we went to the doctor and had an ultrasound, and sure enough, its a little girl!!!! The first thing I told Chris was that he was not allowed to spoil her rotten . . .

Sooooooooooooooo yes its been decades since I posted last, but I'm back now! And, we are expecting a new addition to the Oliver family some time around the end of October. We are very excited. We find out the sex of the baby in two weeks, any ideas on baby names would be greatly appreciated. We love you all!

Valentine's Day . . . and other stuff . . .

So, Valentine's is coming up. Chris says its just a holiday that was invented as an excuse to give women presents. Well, he has gotten some pretty sweet things over the last few years. In my family we sort of do homemade gifts a lot, like I made a homemade fried chicken and cheese biscuit dinner one time, a picnic dinner in the park where we had our first date, a card made of conversation hearts, etc. Maybe that's cheesy, but its just what I grew up doing, of course, there are times when you need a big gift, but for little things like valentine's mother's day, we are more of the making present, breakfast-in-bed type. Anyhow, I like V-day because its a celebration of love! yay! . . . . the other stuff is that I am really enjoying my new job at GR Whitfield. I am really loving the kids and the staff I work with is great. Chris is super busy as a grad assistant and his own classes, its like double the schoolwork, bless him!!!

Merry Christmas!!!!! 'Tis the season! yay! How exciting. Well, I've tried to make our blog a little more festive, but its kinda confusing and I don't love it, but I like the red ornaments. it reminds me of our tree. Well, a few changes have been taking place. Chris got a new calling at church as the Elder's Quorum President, and I got a job teaching Spanish at Snow Hill primary school. I start Monday, and I think I am really going to love it. The students are so well behaved, and my assistant is just fabulous. gee, as I'm sitting here Chris was complaining about needing new scriptures, and well that was one of his Christmas presents I got, leather bound with his name on them. He kept talking about it so much that I was afraid he would just go out and buy some, so I said, 'maybe Santa will bring some' stupid me I guess that gave it away! Then he started asking what color, and i was like burgundy, so it totally ruined his only suprise, because he knows what all the other presents are! I am a bit upset.

Autumn Begins!

Did you know today is the first official day of Autumn!! It is my favorite season!! Because the weather is fantastic (low 70's here in the Carolinas) which means I can count on a little change in my wardrobe; also it means fall football, lots of autumn festivals, and the State Fair! Yay! I am ready for a change. Thank heavens for seasons! I love this scene, so picturesque, fall colors are so beautiful and I love to see the beautiful countryside just as the leaves are beginning to fall.

Cleaning 101: Its tough enough to try and keep your house straight, but when you move into an even smaller place like we have, its even tougher (is that a word?). Please tell me girls if you agree, but why is it that you can clean and straighten the whole place, and the kitchen table just seems to never quite remain clear. Everybody throws their stuff down on the kitchen table when they get home: purses, mail, textbooks, bookbags, keys,etc. Now, this is a picture of our first place, and, since there was a desk right as you walked in the door eveything seemed to get thrown on that, the kitchen table had its own little nook, far away from "walk in the door" traffic. But now i'm having a hard time (as in our second place of residence) keeping the table clear. I've even put a table cloth, flowers, and teapot to make it look cute, and we still seem to just put stuff there, what the heck? And don't even get me started on the throw pillows on the couch and recliner!!!! Do those EVER stay where you neatly arrange and fluff them????? No!!!!! Well, then again, I have a husband who loves to sleep/sit/study etc. w/ a million pillows, so he does actually use the throw pillows and gets them all out of wack!!! But I feel like I amarranging them 24/7!!! And the house doesn't seem completely straight until they're arranged, even if I've just cleaned - the pillows have to be arranged!!! Am I a deranged lunatic, or does anyone else have these problems??? - or maybe i'm just fussing over sillly little stuff to keep my mind from the bigger problems in life . . . . . funny how i read about others' blogs and their trips across the globe, and here i am talking about throw pillows . . . . exciting life . . .

So, Chris and I went to the driving range on Saturday so he could practice his swing and teach me how to hit a golf ball. I have been bugging him forever to teach me to play. So, we went and bought a bucket full of goldballs and after he showed me a little technique and I did a few practice swings, I have to say I was a bit proud of myself. When I saw all the flags off in the distance my goal was at least to hit one ball out to the flag closest to us, which was probably 50-60 yards out. After missing a few times and just kicking up dirt a few other times, I started to just hit "ground balls" as I called them, I finally hit a few way up in the air past the white flag! Yes! I exceeded my goal. Every once in awhile I would hit a good one and get really excited, and would be like 'Chris look, did you see that one???' this kid beside us gave me this look like 'dad what the heck is she so excited about' I think we are going to actually try and play a game sometime next week, but we've decided to ditch the cart and go for the burn (walking). haha.

Chris had a ballgame tonight in Kinston, where he hit two homers!!! Cracked 'em both right over the fence!!!! I was soooooooo proud!!! But a little disappointed that I wasn't there - I was working late and unfortunately missed all the drama, but it was exciting to hear about it all. I told him it must be all the sit-ups and push-ups he's been doing lately . . . .too bad all that's done for me is given me sore muscles . . . .

28 years ago was a very special day for Molly and Daddy. First, it was Father's Day, so Daddy was excited for that - but what's more exciting about that Father's Day on June 15 1980 was that his third daughter arrived into the world, all blue-eyed and bushy-tailed :) We celebrated this momentous occasion together this year - having Molly's favorite birthday cake complete w/ rainbow chip icing, and and everyone around to wish Molly a Happy Birthday and Daddy a Happy Father's Day. It has been many year since Father's Day has actually fallen on the 15th - so this year was especially exciting.

Yay for Chris!!!!!He graduated from ECU School of Business w/ a Bachelor's on May 9, 2008. The whole clan was there, even Casey and Jena came all the way from Salt Lake City UT. Afterwards at the house we had a little get together, where of course Porter wanted Uncle Chris's hat and cake!! Porter's two favorite things!! Now he has a little bit of a break until starting Summer school in July for graduate school. What a brainiac! I am so proud of my husband :)

Springtime is in the Air

Well, even though I've been enjoying the good old Christmas memories, springtime is definately in the air. I love the cool fresh breeze, the birds chirping and our grass is turning from a drab brown color to a vibrant green, its like everything is waking up and its time for a new beginning :) Easter is coming up soon, and Springtime certainly reminds us of the sacrifice of our Savior, whom truly gave us the marvelous chance of having new beginnings. To illustrate the "springtime in the air" theme, a lovely little bird has decided to make her little home on our front door rose wreath! It got blown down from the windstorm last week, when i first noticed the new little nest, which I couldn't resist throwing off to the side, even though I was sure once I touched it she would never come back, so I gently situated it back into the wreath and hung it back on the door. Its so amazing how intricately the nest was made, how much time it must have took! to carry each little blad of grass or twig (or trash unfortunately)! And can you believe, she returned and has been laying an egg a day! Four total so far!! It is so precious to me! I love it and feel like I'm her little protector! The eggs are so beautiful - they are a light blue with brown specs! Imagine to have my own little "easter" eggs !! I can't wait to see the four little baby birdies!! We try to be very careful when opening the door. We have disturbed the mother a couple of times hopefully she won't fly into the house one day!!

I was just reminiscing today about Christmas as I was going through picture albums . . . oh te joys of Christmas, I love everything about it, the cold, the colors, the smells . . . the all around warm familiar atmostphere . . . and especially the music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a time when we reflect and celebrate our Savior's birth, and many for many of us this helps us to count our blessings. It is one of the most joyous things, gift -giving; for Christ gave the greatest gift of all. . . . . looking forward to Christmas 2008

DECEMBER has been a very busy and very fun & exciting time. First, Chris finished the semester with straight A's after a lot of hard work. Whew, now he can rest a bit . . . Casey and Jena Oliver came for a 10 day visit to NC my how Landon is grown. He was such a trooper, being flown across the country sleeping in a foreign bed, yet remaining so happy and cheerful! He is an adorable little tyke.

We celebrated our First Anniversary on August 12, 2007!! How time flies when you're havin' fun! We love being married. It is such a fulfilling life to be sealed together for time and all eternity to your sweetheart! Chris has just started his senior year at ECU; he had a nice break this summer and we were a bit spoiled with all the leisure time he had but now its back to school! We are still serving as scout leaders, which is starting back this week. Molly is enjoying working in insurance. Life is good. We are blessed to have so many blessings and terrific friends and family like you!

Well, I have been attempting to decorate and work on new projects for our home. I decided a cheap way to decorate and liven things up is to paint!! It was so fun choosing the "lifevest orange" color - I first thought about yellow but was afraid it would clash. I love the orange it really brings some life to the place - it seemed a bit drab around here . . . I also thought a nice white tablecloth (complete with satin trim) would lighten things up a bit in the dining area - and I couldn't resist the cute little teapot at linens 'n things . . . . I am having a blast decorating!!!

Well I have been busy with some new projects, I have just felt the desire to learn new things, crafty things I mean. So, I tried painting on canvas and that was nothing short of a disaser. Then I attempted to smock and was quite successful after a few attempts . . . then I found this book that had "weekend projects" and decided to paint a headboard for our bed on the wall! Sounds crazy, but I love it and it was so much fun! Maybe I'll paint the bathroom next. . . . I'll keep you posted :)

I am so proud of my husband! He was inducted into the National Honors Society at East Carolina University Phi Kappa Phi; Beta Gamma Sigma, and recieved an academic scholarship! Yeah Chris!!

Exciting things are happening with family and friends! New additions to the family, graduation, and fun trips! We have just returned from our trip to Salt Lake City, UT to visit our precious new nephew, Landon Christopher Oliver, who was named after his Uncle Chris. During our visit we had a wonderful trip with Steve and Sue to Manti Utah, where our cousin, Lindsey Jackson was married. We also attended the graduation of Jena Oliver from the University of Utah; and our dear friend, Kasia Kohler's Pinning Ceremony for Nursing School at Idaho State University. We had a fantastic time! In North Carolina . . . . we also are proud to welcome yet another precious newphew to our family, Fisher Furgurson Ledford.
